The Daughter of the Evil

Before it all began, before the war, the kidnapping, the swayamvar, before Sita was adopted by Janaka. Yes, adopted it might seem strange at first and a little familiar to those who know a bit of mythological background of Sita.

Sita – the daughter of Earth.

Once King Janaka(real name Seeradhwaj), the king of Mithilaa was ploughing a field to perform Yagna. A golden radiance from Earth caught his attention. There she was, Sita in a golden basket. Janak had no children of his own, he decided to adopt this girl and give her all the love and care in the world. His wife Rani Sunaya was really happy on this and raised Sita into The most beautiful princess.

Some of you must be familiar with this bit of the story but, that is not all. Nothing at Mythogeeks goes without a twist. So, let’s make it more interesting, shall we?

Some part of the mythological history reveals that Sita was the reincarnation of Vedavati. Vedavati was a pious woman who wanted to marry Lord Vishnu. For her love, she gave up worldly life and became a hermit and built an ashram on a riverbank. One day Vedavati was meditating, Ravana saw her. He was mesmerised with her beauty and in tried to molest her. To escape from Ravana she jumped into the fire. But she cursed Ravaan, she would return and will be the cause of his death in her next life. In her next birth, Vedavati was born as Ravan's daughter. Raavan was told by his close fellow pundits that his daughter will end his life. Ravana wanted to save himself and thus decided to through away his child into the sea and kill his death. The child fell on the lap Varuni, the goddess of Sea. Goddess Varuni took the girl child to the shores and gave her to earth-goddess Prithvi. Goddess Prithvi, the goddess of earth decided to give her to Janak.

As per the Ramayana we all know Sita was found by King Janaka while ploughing a field.

So, all that twist and turns and rebirths by Raavan and Sita all of the fate rested on that day. The day Raavan had to die. He had to die because he had insulted intellectuals. He had to die because he had molested a devika. He had to die because he was protecting his own daughter. He just had to die. But will his death make all the wrong in the world right. Will this story see a Happy end? Or what we were told from such a long time was happy end but there was more that nobody wanted to tell us.

That we will find next time.
