Once the Manasputras of Brahma (sons born from the mind or thought power of Brahma), visited Vaikuntha, the abode of Vishnu, as they wished to see him.
The four Kumaras though appeared to be mere children, but were of great age and power. The gatekeepers Jaya and Vijaya of the Vaikuntha interrupted the Kumaras at the gate, perceiving them to be children. Telling the Kumaras that Sri Vishnu is resting and that they cannot see him now. Not able to meet Vishnu angered the Kumaras. The enraged Kumaras Told Jaya and Vijaya that Vishnu is available for his devotees any time, and cursed both the keepers Jaya and Vijaya for this act.
The were cursed that they would have to give up their divinity and be born as mortals on Earth (bhuloka, or physical plane), and live like normal human beings. The outside chaos caught Vishnu’s attention. Vishnu appeared before them and came to know of the situation, and the gatekeepers pleaded their Lord to lift the curse of the Kumaras. Vishnu said that the curse of the Kumaras cannot be reversed. Instead, he gave Jaya and Vijaya two options.
The first option is to take seven births on Earth as a devotee of Vishnu, while the second is to take three births as his enemy. After serving either of these sentences, they can re-attain their stature at Vaikuntha and be with him permanently. Jaya and Vijaya could not bear the thought of staying away from Vishnu for seven lives.
Applying this calculus, they chose to be born three times on Earth even though it would have to be as enemies of Vishnu.
These moments flashed in front of Raavan who was still very much into his thoughts. They had already been killed by Varaha(man-lion), serving their first life as Hiranyakashipu and Hiranyaksha.
This time they had to be Raavan and Kubhakaran. Vijaya had already been killed and Raavan awaited his destiny.
Atleast in this life he could do both, fulfill his destiny and protect his daughter- Seeta.
