There has been a trend to ignore the valour of the Northeastern region right starting from ancient history to modern history. Most of the history that we read today in our textbooks is north centric which extends to the west. But Northeast has been completely and deliberately ignored by Nehruvian and Marxist historians.
Do you know the story of Raja Prithu of Assam?
I can say this with full confidence that most of you are hearing his name for the first time ever. But if I ask you about Bhaktiyar Khilji, then probably you all know him well.
But you will be astounded to know that Raja Prithu of Assam had played a great role in the killing of Khilji. Raja Prithu was the king of Kamrupa which is in present-day Assam and he had his capital in present-day North Guwahati.
For some unknown reasons, once Bhaktiyar Khilji decided to invade Tibet and he had raised his army to achieve this. To achieve his plan, Khilji meet the King Prithu in Assam and sought his armed support. The king Prithu assured the assistance to Khilji but asked to grant him some more time to raise his army.
But Khilji got impatient and he then decided to conquer Tibet alone with his army. He hovered through the Teesta river of Sikkim and arrived Tibet but the weather conditions of Tibet was harsh and terrain was a little complex which made his strategy tough. At some point after confronting lots of complications, Khilji with his army decided to return back. While he was returning back from the stone bridge over Teesta river, he discovered that Raja Prithu had already raised his army but instead of helping him, it was ready to defeat him. The Assamese army led by Raja Prithu destroyed the stone bridge from which he was returning through and the entire Khilji army was eradicated but somehow Khilji managed to survive and returned back to his capital in Bengal.
But this devastating defeat made the army generals of Khilji disappointed and angry who then murdered Khilji. This event marked the end of Bakhtiyar Khilji whose cruelty had crossed all the limits. He was the same Khilji who had destroyed the great world-class university of India.
This event is one of the crucial events in the history of India which displays the strategic approach of warriors in Assam but sadly our textbooks won't tell you about this.
