Often a time we hear people complaining about how Assamese music is degrading, on the other hand the people will be complaining how western music is killing the Assamese music industry. But gone are the days when musicians were confined to the niches.
Heavy metal/hard rock band Filharmonix’s comeback album STORIES, sees the band revamping themselves with the essence of old school rock n roll and heavy metal with the chunky vibe of modern Assamese music from the 90’s and early 2000’s.
The disk opens up with the anthemic “Jolise” and follows to the tracks like “Aami”, “Herua
Hopun”, “Saki egosi”, “Ahiba ketiya”, “deutar moromor” and “protistuti”, and each song hits hard and has something different to offer. In one time we see the band pulling off The Rolling Stones, while other time we see them go full on Guns N’ Roses or Skid Row. The classic vibe of 60’s, 70’s and 80’s rock n roll is blended like a cocktail with the ingredients of modern Assamese songs indeed, which makes the disk one of a kind.
As for the composition, it’s catchy, crunchy and groovy as well as melodic although the musicality had simplicity. Lyrically the disk carries a strong message about things that we tend to forget into our materialistic life.
Sound and tone is gritty but not so melodramatic, it’s a sound of a happy soul and free spirit, with the songs that anyone could relate to. Production value and arrangement is at par, and is nicely executed.
Overall, a disk that no one shall miss out on, and must keep on their playlist for a long time. This is promising and deserves a chance from the fans of non-rock music as well.
We will go with 9/10 with this one.
