The song: -“Gupon” by Naaz Sultana, has been creating a hype in the local music scene of Guwahati ever since Naaz made an announcement of its release back in 2019 with a promotional teaser poster on social media. The song is her fourth release as NAAZ, her band, through her own indie production house Naazara Productions. The song was finally released in 16th of April 2020. in 16th of April 2020.
Lyrics and tone: - Unlike her previous releases which were dark and Gothic inspired,
“Gupon” is has an upbeat jazz funk tone, layered with crunchy leads and solo by Siddhart Borooah, grooves by Riu Xing, and funky bass lines by Amitabh Borooah. While the lyrically the song is about finding your identity and having a conversation with your conscience. The composition is impressive and has a nice ring to it.
Sound, musicality and performance: - The music production is top notch and nicely mixed, music video on the other hand steals the show with amazing acting and Gothic as well as Victorian inspired art direction and undertone. Sound wise, it seems like NAAZ took inspiration from Maroon 5, Adele and Lady Gaga. Overall performance is fantastic and well-acted.
