In the modern society, depression have become a grave concerns for both teachers and parents. 6 out of 10 youth now are more likely to become a victim of clinical depression and anxiety. But, depression is not only limited to teenagers and youths, a seemingly fine looking adult can also be depressed in his 30s, 40s or fifties.
So what triggers depression? A young child can become depressed in most usual things,
one being exam pressure or career options other being relationship problems and traumatic lifestyle. But statistics says that lack of attention, love or sex can also lead to depression, as because teenagers as well as adults are more likely fail while drawing the line between realities and fantasies. Other factor that causes depression could be stressful work schedule, toxic working environment, comparison, negligence, bullying or abuses. However, we cannot rule out the fact that in the modern age, social media is yet another burning factor of rise in depression and anxiety among youths and adults both. Since people’s private life is more likely to become a topic of gossip or memes or rumors alike. Also, the rising problem of disturbed sleep, insomnia, alcohol and cannabis abuses among youths.
What could be the solution? An early diagnosis can help detect the problem in a youth, and a child must be medicated, rehabilitated and treated if he/she is having deviant fantasies. Also a youth must stay productive and channel his/her creative skills through doing something positive. Mood swings could be cured with exercises like Yoga and pranayama. Also, at this stage it is better to stay away from smoking, drinking and doing drugs and it is suggested by doctors to not to spend too much times on mobile, computers, TV or video games and shall spend more time reading a good book or talking with the parents.
