Fashion sketching plays major role in designing to preview and visualize design before sewing actual clothing.
As a designer and a illustrator, I personally use acrylic colors, poster colors and Luna colors, and for sketching I use artist pencil from the brand called 'Artline'. It has pencils from HB to 10B. This materials are the best for complete beginners, they are affordable and easily available in the market, this are materials i use to convey details of the garments.
Illustrators first begin with croquis (figure of the human body). The figure is either 9 head or 10 head proportions. Always draw with the correct proportions then, understand the anatomy of the human figure. Once done, try various character poses and practice it. Find your style and place on your croquis.
After the sketching part, comes adding colors to the dress and what type of fabric you will use on that particular dress. You have to take care of the fabric rendering, the textures, the colors combinations, the tones etc.
In fashion Illustration, your creativity and imagination plays the most vital role. You should be able to talk with the dress. The basic purpose of any design is communication. The fashion sketches/drawings, are used by fashion designers to contain their fashion brief and communicate their creative ideas to the people who matter( client, producer or a designer boss) and how a piece of clothing they have in mind would eventually look. The fashion sketch is an outline with the basic silhouette of the garment or contain all the details like what color combination work with it, embellishments, darts, pocket positions etc, accessories that go with it, even how much it would cost to produce.
