Colossal Corp is a rock band from Guwahati who is blending a variety of genres to create their own sound. Been active into the local music scene for a long time, the band has a plethora of successful accolades into their forte which includes the release of well received songs, successful gigs around the country. We at Inked Streets had a little conversation with the band to know their visions as a band and their future plans.
Inked Streets:-Greetings, and welcome to Inked Streets.
Colossal Corp:-Thank You Inked Streets, for making us a part of your endeavour.
Inked Streets:-What is the story behind the band and how it was initiated?
Colossal Corp:-I and our lead Guitarist were a part of another band, Stigmata, for a year and so. After an initial hiatus we decided to come in for a formation, that’s when we thought my brother Farhad has grown enough to be in a band and thus we formed.
Inked Streets:-What genre do you consider your band's music to be?
Colossal Corp:-Our foundation is Hard rock and top of that we often do improvisations and add metal, pop, funk and classic elements to it. Besides we were the first band in this region to introduce the genre Rock grass, which is a blend of bluegrass and rock music.
Inked Streets:-During your song-writing sessions, how do you put together the ideas and what kind of lyrical themes are you more likely to pick for your songs?
Colossal Corp:-Our song writing ideas are completely spontaneous and embraces wide topics. From storytelling, to personal uplifting and universal brotherhood. Besides whenever we jam and hit upon a decent music score we start working upon it and individually contribute to make it substantial. Not only that we also welcome songs written by our members as well.
Inked Streets:-As a band who are some of your major influences?
Colossal Corp:-Extreme, Mr. BIG, Whitesnake, Journey, Hayseed Dixie, Van Halen to name a few.
Inked Streets:-The fans knows that in its early stage the band used to have a different sound but with the new single and new line up the band came up with a new sound, so how did this transition came into formation?
Colossal Corp:-We as a band have always accepted the flavors brought in by our members, be it the former or the present 5. And also by the fact that colossal Corp has never been about one specific genre.
Inked Streets:-How challenging do you think it is to make a place in a scene for a band now-a-days with a classic style of rock n' roll when modern and extreme forms of rock or metal music is more prominent?
Colossal Corp:-Our love for this genre of music keep us ticking. Moreover if you look at rock music nowadays in cities, it’s mostly confined to pubs and cafes where classic genres are way more popular, so monetarily and depending the number of gigs we play it serves well for us. Even in some of the open gigs we find our clients strictly asking us to stick with hard rock and classic stuffs and they also love our originals which is like icing on a cake.
Inked Streets:-What is your ultimate direction as a band and what kind of message do you wish to convey with your songs?
Colossal Corp:-We would love to keep on writing songs which is akin to our taste and satisfy our hard rock and classic loving crowd as long as possible. Also we would like to mention that the younger crowd also needs to know about genres that we play which have been the foundation of rock music. We simply cannot let it die.
Inked Streets:-Your most memorable gig would be?
Colossal Corp:-We can mention a few like Sofarsounds Shillong, the first edition of Metropolis held in Guwahati, Bodoland rider's meet , The Evening club Shillong.

Colossal Corp:-Thanks a million for loving us for all these years and keep doing it. We are blessed to have a highly musically knowledgeable crowd even if it’s small in number.
