As much as it pains me to say this but seems like nothing has changed since 2012’s incident that shook the whole nation and we were being promised with better laws and safeguards for woman. But if I were to state the facts in India every second we breath, a girl might be becoming the victim of crime against women.
The most common violent acts done to woman in India are harassment for dowry, eve
teasing, molestation, physical assault, acid attack and of course rape. And arguably in India rape is the topmost type of crimes that gets reported every weeks of the month in a year.
As if it has become habitual now to read or watch a news about from 1-month old baby to a 60-year-old woman being raped more often, like Christ, why are we stooping so low?
Now the argument is that the reason for rape cases in India is well obscenity in Bollywood movies and web series, western culture, Porn and what not. Funny thing was when someone said, “boys makes mistake it’s okay.” Like hell, that moment I knew that we are indeed taking rape as a usual case in India now and we won’t feel the same pain until someone of our own is at threat.
Let me confess, I have my younger sister in her late 20’s that works late shift and comes back home at prime hour and not a single day goes when I don’t worry about her safety. Yes, such is the case that even we men are now afraid about our sister, our cousin, our girlfriend or our wife when they go out.
But is it worth to live in fear or are we going to get that much needed strict law ASAP? A year
ago or so we heard more than 20 rape cases, common being Asifa and the other being Priya Reddy and believe me or not Priya Reddy was trending on porn site then I knew that someone else’s pain have now become someone else’s pleasure. It really makes me sick where we have come now in 73 years where women struggle to enjoy freedom and gets judged based on their clothes on the one hand and also a fully clad woman is likely to become a victim of sexual harassment on the other.
Also, in the recent events two more ghastly cases that were reported was of a girl who were raped in the open and the incident yesterday and before that of a girl who met with an accident after being chased by eve teasers on a bike.
So now comes the question, are we slowly becoming a “rape” nation? Maybe because from what I saw that some men were actually vocal about how they indeed blame the dress code of a woman and justifies it by saying that how it gets them aroused or excited and surprisingly some kids were also in its support.
Now my thought exactly is as same as yours, as if their education were provided to them in a toilet and their morality has been flushed down the hole by the age old thinking and customs by the masochists of our society that flaunt misogyny and nihilism and narcissism with a shallow pride and some kind f**** up superstition and blind devotion shoved into their minds.
I know I am sounding harsh and angry but I am speaking for not only myself but for others as well and I am speaking from not a blogger or writer’s perspective but that of a brother of a sibling whose safety might be at stake.
