“The world is a Bridge, pass over it, but build no houses upon it. He who hopes for a day, may hope for eternity; but the World endures but an hour. Spend it in prayer for the rest is unseen.” – Akbar the Great

Akbar, a name the world knows. I started exploring the city of Agra by first visiting this place. Late afternoons can be a good time to visit this place as you can witness the beautiful sunset as well as the chirrup of the beautiful birds.

Well yes! This wonderful last bed of Akbar is situated in Sikandra area of Agra where the tomb stands still with lush green beauty surrounding it.

Peacocks, antelopes, deers, parrots, peahens and many more species of animals surround the beautiful monument.

Come let's know about the art and architecture of this structure of one of the most marvelous kings India has ever presented to the world.

Akbar planned and selected the 119 acres of the ground of Sikandra for the tomb. The tomb is accepted to have been worked somewhere in the range of 1605 and 1618. The tomb was finished by his son Jahangir after his death.

The principal structure of the tomb is worked out of sandstone and a part is produced using marble.

It presents an eye-catching art and architecture showing beautiful piece of Mughal style blended with Hindu Rajputana structure and Gothic Mughal style.

For the entrance, there are four entryways. The southern door is the biggest one with four marble chhatri-beat minarets. This entryway is the typical purpose of the section. The state of the tomb is pyramidal and has four stories and a marble structure, which contains the replica tomb.

The ground floor is encompassed by walkways all around. While entering the tomb, it had a long passage that lead to the maqbara. The passage is slant and not straight.

It is told that his son wanted everyone to bow their head down while visiting his father's maqbara.

The top storey is made of white marble. It has an open to sky square court and beautiful curves.

Most part of the structure is built from dark red sandstone, advanced with highlights in white marble. The tomb has beautiful flower designs carved into it. The true essence of the beautiful art and Architecture can be felt here.

And that was it for the beautiful Akbar's Tomb. But stay tuned as I take you to the other beautiful monuments and places of Agra this quarantine.
