A BIGGER VIRUS THAN COVID-19 IS RACISM

Updated: Mar 27, 2020

We have been keeping our silence in this matter for a long time but now have come into terms with ourselves and thought about time we speak about it. A nation-wide and more like a world-wide pandemic is going on in the wake of corona virus which prompted people to storm the grocery as well as departmental stores and swap away the sections to gather supplies more like following the idea of “more than we can bargain for” because people are panicked and it is justified. And for that reason the government have initiated a lockdown protocol which would be put into action from today onward but meanwhile, our country India is battling with a bigger virus called Racism in comparison to Covid-19 itself, because today itself we got to hear a news from Facebook as well as tweeter that a woman from Manipur was insulted with racist slur in a sub-urban area of North Delhi and was spited upon with Gutkha juices by a local man who followed her via scooter and this is not just the case in the capital city, in our Prime Minister’s home state Gujarat, Rajasthan as well as in Mumbai also the indigenous people of North-East India are more likely becoming the victim of racism to such a point that these Mainland people are now tagging the people North-east India with the label of “corona carrier” if the terms like “chinks” or “momo” was not enough for them.

And, so we today deeply condemn such incidents and urge people to think rationally and get together and get united to fight the battle against Covid-19 and keep aside our racial or religious or ethnicity difference because We the people of North-East are also as much Indians as the other guy in the neighborhood, we also sing to the national anthem and hoist the same flag, we also share the same kind of patriotism, we also celebrate Eid, Dushehra, Holi and Diwali, we respect and welcome the outside visitors with open arms, we allow the people from outside North-East to stay here and conduct their business ventures and in return we would also expect that same courtesy from you people. Please for once give us support to fight this epidemic because if we still hold on to our racial differences then what’s the point of our independence? Where will the sacrifices of Mahatma Gandhi and Bhagat Singh would go? Just think about it for once.
