"I will complain to God about all of you, I will tell him everything"- do you remember those heart touching lines by the Syrian kid? Now we think the boy really did that! Well the recent outbreak of COVID-19 has taught us some lessons that we must remember for the rest of our lives.
Few days back, a viral tweet claimed swans had returned to the canals of Venice because the recent lockdown due to COVID-19 has lowered the pollution level. While writing the post, I found that some other source claims it to be a fake news. In reality, swans have long frequented the canals of Burano, an island in the greater Venice metropolitan area. However, it istrue that decreased boat activity has made the water clearer than usual. Now this news may be true or fake, it surely makes us realise that we, the human beings have forgot to coexist!
The pandemic restricted our movements and hence pollution levels are getting down. Let us consider the case of Delhi. In November 2019, Delhi had a air quality in 'severe' category with a Air Quality Index of 425 and now the air quality in Delhi NCR is 'moderate' with an AQI of 129 and even 'satisfactory' with an AQI of 86 and 90. Four months back, people of Delhi had to wear mask to fight the pollution and today when they are sitting at home, the air quality is improving. The absence of man in the roads can change the picture of a city, can give you fresh air. How funny is that?
The world spends crores of money in war, in making weapons. In this crisis, health, education, science are the sectors which are keeping us alive. Now we realise that these are the things which should be given more importance. To indulge in a war, first you have to be alive.
There are great actors, players, models whom we consider to be our heroes, our inspiration. This is fine. But how many of us remember the ordinary citizens of the country who are serving us day and night as doctors, police, scientist, nurses, government employees and bank employees by risking their lives in this huge crisis? Instead, we attack the doctor, destroy the hospitals when they cannot save the life of a patient.
Yes, I do believe that the outbreak of the COVID-19 is a warning to the mankind by the nature. Since few days, we are fighting against as 'human beings' because this disease cannot make discriminations on religion, caste and colour. I feel as if the nature is telling us-
"Dear human, enough is enough
You have forgot the value of life
You forgot that every animal has equal right to live in this planet
You don't know who will be there in your crisis
So now, sit at home, fight back and learn some life lessons."
